Reference Cuts:  Roughs For Tom to review

Tom

Nice to meet you today.

I apologize again for stopping you, but I had just been thinking about the cello part in all this when I ran into you.  Being a believer in such serendipity, I had to say something.

As I said, the singer is Dani Gale, an accomplished regional rock musician ex of a couple of bands that did pretty well.

It is a country/alternative rock album we are recording and the songs attached here are reference cuts, ie very rough couple of tracks done outside of the studio to work on song structure, basic song syntax and musician parts.  In the studio, there will be condenser mics, etc.  These are simply to help the vocalist, arranger and musicians develop their parts.

We have been doing reference cuts on Saturday evenings and then making them available for the musicians on Sunday and through the week.  Our vocalist/guitarist is in Central Jersey and our Lead and Slide guitar are there also.  Very mild drums will be incorporated and these are being set up from Cleveland.

We intend to go into the studio in early July and the recording session would not be extensive, probably a few days.  Of these, you would be able to do all your parts during one afternoon of one day, if you wanted to.

We see the cello as the bass line for most of the songs and to be offset with mandolin.  For example, on Faith, the cello would provide a slow, melodious contrast, before and after the voice, essentially creating a musical pocket around the vocals - though an airy quality to the whole thing is desired.  On Faith, the cello is the lead instrument and this would be the lead guitar of the song, the guitars and mandolin would provide accompanying support.

On Turtle Pond and All That I Am, the grinding guitar pattern is all cello and again, the cello acts like a lead and rythm guitar in the songs.

We would be very interested in your own interpretive quality and will either provide you with very tight parameters or very loose ones, as you might like.  The caveat being, none of what we cannot provide you with documentation equivalent to arrangement documentation in the classical genre.

I would propose that we get you and the singer/guitarist together to jam a little and see how you guys take with each other.  If we all feel some comfort, then I would propose we go forward and make a record.

From a career point of view, we can't offer real money.  We can offer credit on the cd, a % of sales of each of the cds, whether sold touring or through a label and a standing offer to play any gigs with us in Phila or, if everyone gets along well anywhere else.

I'm sure you are busy and have an excellent career track of your own, so I do not mean to presume.  If nothing else, we are fun, good people who think we are going to make a great record.

Hope you are interested.  Give me an email either way or if you want to talk some more, my number is 215 964 9634.

Regards,
Ray
